Exercise 1.5

For this blog, I am mainly focusing on my research question.  Research questions are very important; they influence the success of one’s project.  Below I state my research question along with some purposes for it.  Also, I am going to state some knowledge, ideas, and beliefs I already have on the topic I chose, which is sex trafficking.

1.      Inquiry Question:

How are human traffickers getting their victims?  Kidnapping?  Inducing them with false promises?

2.     Primary Purpose:

Explore:  Where are people being trafficked from?
                How old are the victims?
                How do the people transported?
Argue:  Should the United States help stop sex trafficking?
The United States should help stop sex trafficking by raising awareness, making stricter boarder control measures, and cracking down on prostitution.

3.     Prior Beliefs, Assumptions, Preconceptions, Ideas, and Prejudices

I have always thought that sex trafficking was bad.  It is morally wrong and degrading to a person.  People who find pleasure in torturing others makes me sick.  I despise men who take advantage of women.  When I was researching and found out that sex trafficking goes on all around the world, even in my hometown, I was very moved.  It is so crazy to think about sex trafficking and prostitution happening where I grew up.  The United States should not let this happen.  The US needs to become more strict and crack down on this perversion.  There is an organization called Love 146 that has a local chapter located right in Lancaster County.  This organization was established to help end child trafficking and exploitation.  After reading the company’s mission and goals I would really love to get involved with an organization to help end sex trafficking sometime in the future.  I hate sex trafficking even more now then before I had decided to write my essay on it.

Exercise 1

CURIOUS RESEARCHER
Exercise 1
STEP 1:
I am writing this blog to express why I think a writer should have a thesis before they begin to write.  The thesis is what the whole paper is based around, and it is also what your arguments are supporting.  I believe that a thesis is key to start to a successful blog.  If a writer must first understand there argument before writing.  A strong thesis leads to a strong paper.  If you know your thesis, the writing process of the paper will be smooth and less stressful.  You will stay on track instead of going on rabbit trails that your audience will mostly likely not be able to follow.  You must have a clear thesis to introduce your audience to what your paper is going to be about.  When you reference your thesis your audience will be able to follow along with the point of your paper and stay connected to the topic with greater ease.  In high school I was always taught that having a clear thesis is so important.  I would always start out with developing a thesis before I started writing.  I always found this very helpful.  It helped me stay on track with what I wanted to say.  A thesis is so important, and these are just some of the reasons why I think that it is very important to have a strong thesis before you start writing.

STEP 2:
In this blog I am going to be talking about why I think that not everything presented in textbooks is true.  There are so many different beliefs and opinions in the world.  Just because something is in a textbook does not mean it is true.  I am a Christian, so when I read a textbook that is evolution based I do not think it is true at all.  Readers need to realize that there are so many views in the world, and all the different views cannot be right.  A reader needs to take into consideration what they read; however, they also need to realize that they are reading what one particular person believes. Not everything you read is true.
